I got accepted for an on-the-job training as a lights man of a concert event organizer company two weeks ago. I was trained on handling different kinds of lighting equipments just last week. It was during the training that we were also taught on setting up of lighting equipments, trouble shooting, and operation of their Light-O-Rama equipment. A software and hardware control system that is commonly used in very huge events such as concerts and theatrical presentations is what Light-O-Rama is. It is where the director can control or program the lighting effects, smoke, music, sounds, moving animatronics, and interactive elements to make sure that the timing is perfect. Just in case things do not go as plan, though many event organizers uses a software and special kind of hardware to control small but important parts of an event, they still need people to work in the background. That is the reason why I was trained on the manual handling of equipments as well. Overall the technical part of the training is easy but the hard part is how to coordinate with the director and how to take note on the timing needed for every song. A show might get down even for a slightest mistake that is why everything needs to be perfect. My week-long training will be put to the test this week in the wedding reception which I am assigned as a back-up lights personnel. I studied the checklist that was given to me by my boss to make sure that all equipments will be in the van. Reviewing my training kit and even asking an experienced lights man to run me through his usual routine were also made sure to make things work well. I am feeling a little jittery thinking that I might not be up for the job since the wedding is in two days but my thoughts are comforted that I am just a back-up for the event.
